Shakespeare’s R&J (11 October – 4 November 2023)
Our new season will open with the first UK revival of Joe Calarco’s queer play Shakespeare’s R&J, since its West End debut 20 years ago. In a rigid boarding school, four repressed adolescents unearth a secret copy of Shakespeare’s tale of forbidden love… what begins as a rebellious laugh soon turns into something more violent.
Potted Panto (27 November – 31 December 2023)
Why see just one pantomime when you can see seven?Potted Panto by Daniel Clarkson, Jefferson Turner and Richard Hurst is a madcap ride through the world’s biggest and most beloved Panto’s! This festive treat is the perfect way to kick off the holidays!
It’s A Wonderful Life (30 November – 30 December 2023)
That’s right, this winter season marks a milestone in our history as we will be running two productions in our theatre simultaneously! Running alongside Potted Panto is our reimagining of It’s A Wonderful Night, written by Mary Elliott Nelson. This adaptation of the critically acclaimed 1946 Frank Capra movie brings the famous Bedford Falls to Reading, along with all its Christmas cheer.
Private Lives (28 February – 23 March 2024)
Noël Coward’s classic, wit-filled comedy Private Lives is coming to Reading Rep in 2024. Elyot and Amanda have been divorced from each other for five years. While on honeymoon with their new partners, they find themselves in the same hotel in the South of France, resulting in a hilarious whirlwind of impulsiveness and scandal.
The Rumble Under The Rug (10 – 12 April 2024)
Helen Eastman’s The Rumble Under The Rug returns to Reading Rep. We are pleased to bring this interactive adventure to Berkshire once again! Tour dates to be announced in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled!
A Little History of the World (22 May – 15 June 2024)
We end our 23/24 season with the world premiere of award-winning playwright Henry Filloux-Bennett’s adaptation of A Little History of the World. This production follows a father in early 1930’s Germany telling his son stories to help him escape from the building tension in their homeland. Based on E.H. Gombrich’s international bestseller, our new adaptation plans to show how the smallest of stories have the biggest legacies on the ones we hold most dear.
ENGAGE:10
Our brand new season will also celebrate 10 years of our award-winning ENGAGE programme. ENGAGE:10 will be a year long programme of workshops, projects and performances for and with the community of Reading. From early years through to care homes. ENGAGE inspires lifelong engagement with theatre for thousands of children, young people and vulnerable adults who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to engage with arts and culture. To mark this anniversary we will be creating a programme of 10 events celebrating all of the work we do on and off stage.
“We remain fiercely committed to breaking down the barriers to theatre, building pathways for the next generation of voices and connecting audiences of every age, background and lived experience, throughout the South East, with unforgettable stories and experiences.” – Paul Stacey, Founding Artistic Director.
